P. Ongagna et G. Iperti, INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE AND PHOTOPERIOD IN HARMONIA-AXYRIDIS PALL (COL, COCCINELLIDAE) - OBTAINING RAPIDLY FECUND ADULTS OR DORMANCY, Journal of applied entomology, 117(3), 1994, pp. 314-317
In H. axyridis, it has been tried to determine the necessary thermic a
nd photoperiodic conditions to obtain rapidly some fecund adults and t
o induce ovarian diapause in some others. The duration of incubation o
f eggs was 10 days at 17 +/- 1-degrees-C and 4 days at 20 +/- 1-degree
s-C. For the same temperature (20 +/- 1-degrees-C), the short photoper
iod compared with the longer one increased significantly the duration
of development of larvae without modify significantly their mortality.
The long daylight allowed to obtain rapidly fecund adults and short o
ne induced ovarian diapause (about 70% of females). The high temperatu
re and daylight terminated it.
