In this study radiochemical grafting in chloroform solution was used t
o control the hydrophilic character of a polymer such as poly(vinylpyr
rolidone). The aim was to synthesize a new type of co-polymer, having
good possibilities of practical applications such as the preparation o
f ultrafiltration membranes by the phase inversion technique. PVP (hig
hly hydrophilic polymer) has been grafted with different amounts of St
yrene by means of gamma-rays from Co-60, in order to get water insolub
le copolymers. The influence of dose, solutions composition and concen
tration was studied. The insoluble fractions were separated and charac
terized by i.r. and HPLC techniques.
