In this paper, we discuss the nonlinear behavior of a model rf superco
nducting quantum-interference-device magnetometer consisting of a macr
oscopic quantum object which is coupled reactively to a linear classic
al oscillator. We demonstrate that chaotic solutions can be found in t
he oscillator for the ground and first excited states of the quantum o
bject over a wide range of parameters, including those relevant to exp
erimental systems.
