S. Ruben et F. Fitzke, CORRELATION OF PERIPHERAL DISPLACEMENT THRESHOLDS AND OPTIC DISC PARAMETERS IN OCULAR HYPERTENSION, British journal of ophthalmology, 78(4), 1994, pp. 291-294
Both peripheral displacement thresholds and measurement of optic disc
parameters have been advocated in the early diagnosis of glaucoma at t
he stage before scotomata are detected on conventional visual field as
sessment. The peripheral movement displacement thresholds were measure
d in 50 eyes of 50 patients with ocular hypertension and a significant
correlation was found with neuroretinal rim areas measured using a co
mputerised image system. There was also a significant correlation with
optic disc diameter but no correlation with cup-disc ratio. The resul
ts support the proposition that measurement of peripheral movement dis
placement thresholds may be a useful tool in the detection of early gl
aucomatous optic nerve damage.
