Ep. Ananeva et al., CHANGES IN MANNOSE CONTENT IN CELLULAR POLYSACCHARIDES OF SPOROBOLOMYCES-HOLSATICUS DURING EXOMANNAN BIOSYNTHESIS, Microbiology, 62(4), 1993, pp. 408-411
Carbohydrate composition of soluble and insoluble fractions of cell wa
lls of Sporobolomyces holsaticus yeast during extracellular mannan bio
synthesis was studied. The content of mannose and glucose in insoluble
structural component was found to be permanent. An increase of mannos
e content in the soluble component of cell walls from 16.4 to 47.6% co
rrelated with extracellular mannan release into culture fluid. Electro
n microscopic investigations have shown that during maximum synthesis
of the exopolysaccharide the cell wall thickness increased by about te
n-fold due to significant accumulation of substances of carbohydrate n
ature.
