Results from three experimental studies are reviewed in order to exami
ne the relationship between the heat and mass transfer coefficients in
the combined infrared and convective drying process. These results de
monstrated that the heat and mass transfer coefficients in infrared co
nvective drying verify the analogy's classical result which express th
eir ratio in terms of the Schmidt to Prandtl number. In addition the e
ffect of high mass transfer rates on the heat and mass transfer coeffi
cients is shown to be taken into account through the use of the bounda
ry layer theory.
