Abstract
When two nuclei collide, a large fraction of the excitation energy is dissipated through the emission of particles before reaching a state o f statistical equilibrium. A theory of these processes based on the Bo ltzmann master equation approach is discussed. It is shown that it all ows a comprehensive description of all the processes that may occur at incident energies of some ten MeV/nucleon.
