Abstract
The phase diagrams of the Ru-Mo-O system at 900-degrees-C and the Ru-W -O system at 1100-degrees-C have been determined a combination of X-ra y powder diffraction (XRD) and electron microscopy. The only mixed met al oxides found in either system were the rutile solid solutions Ru1-x MxO2 with 0.5>x>0 for M=Mo and 0.13>x>0 for M=W. The composition depen dence of the unit-cell parameters of the solid solution is consistent with the calculated band structure of rutile. The alloy Ru1-xWx was fo und to form in the composition range 0.35>x>0.
