Abstract
We show that a Schrodinger cat state can be generated using a crossed Kerr interaction between two optical modes and an appropriate conditio nal measurement on one of the modes. The effect of damping on the gene ration process is analyzed in detail and two possible detection scheme s for the cat state are presented.
