T. Schmidt et al., TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENCE OF OPTICAL-LINE WIDTHS AND SPECIFIC-HEAT OF RARE-EARTH-DOPED SILICATE-GLASSES, Journal of luminescence, 58(1-6), 1994, pp. 180-183
Optical dephasing and specific heat were measured on each of two rare-
earth-doped silicate glasses between 0.4 and 12 K. The homogeneous lin
e width and the contribution of the two-level-systems (TLS) to the spe
cific heat follow the same temperature dependence T(alpha) within one
sample, alpha being different in the two samples. The results are in a
greement with current theories of dephasing in glasses if a dipole-dip
ole coupling of the optical transition to the TLS is assumed.
