We consider the capture and ionization of an electron in quantum wells
and wires by a shallow donor impurity due to the interaction with aco
ustical phonons. In the case of phonon wavelengths much smaller than t
he width of wells or wires, L, the transition rates are proportional t
o epsilon-5(n(epsilon) + 1/2 +/- 1/2)L-6, where epsilon is the transfe
rred energy and n(epsilon) is the phonon occupation number.
