OPTIMIZATION OF INTERMEDIATE CHARGE-STATE OUTPUT FROM ELECTRON-BEAM ION-SOURCE DEVICES

A few methods for optimizing output of intermediate charge state ions from electron beam ion source devices are examined. The schemes are ba sed on reducing the charge state of the highest charge state ions into the intermediate states, thus enhancing the relative abundance of the se states. Only the most elementary considerations are invoked. Althou gh a thorough analysis may not be feasible due to lack of good data, t he schemes are easy to try experimentally.
