Fj. Lee et Kj. Bowman, TEXTURE DEVELOPMENT VIA GRAIN ROTATION IN BETA-SILICON NITRIDE, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 77(4), 1994, pp. 947-953
A grain rotation model first described by Jeffery is applied to quanti
tatively predict texture development and texture heterogeneity in hot-
worked beta-Si3N4. Comparison of model predictions and experimental re
sults indicates that such models can successfully predict the texture
developed in beta-Si3N4 with significant differences observed at heigh
t reductions greater than 60% (true strain almost-equal-to -0.9). Appl
ications include a description of textures in hot forging, plane strai
n compression, and various green body forming techniques including tap
e casting and extrusion.
