Abstract
The SPS muon beam, recently upgraded for the Spin Muon Collaboration e xperiment, is described. The basic concepts of the beam design are pre sented. The measured beam flux and muon halo rates, spot sizes and ave rage muon polarisation are reported and the observed performance is co mpared with Monte Carlo simulations.
