H. Tomida et al., A NOVEL METHOD FOR THE PREPARATION OF CONTROLLED-RELEASE THEOPHYLLINECAPSULES COATED WITH A POLYELECTROLYTE COMPLEX OF KAPPA-CARRAGEENAN AND CHITOSAN, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 42(4), 1994, pp. 979-981
A novel method for the preparation of kappa-carrageenan/chitosan polye
lectrolyte complex (PEC) membrane capsules containing theophylline as
a model drug was developed. The theophylline release from the capsules
followed zero-order kinetics, and the release rates were independent
of pH of the dissolution medium, suggesting that kappa-carrageenan/chi
tosan PEC capsules could be a useful vehicle for controlled-release dr
ug delivery.
