Proton threshold states in Ar-36 have been studied via the reactions C
l-35(He-3, d)Ar-36, S-32(Li-6, d)Ar-36, S-32(alpha, gamma)Ar-36, Cl-35
(p, gamma)Ar-36 and Cl-35(p, alpha)S-32 to investigate their influence
on a possible SCl reaction cycle in explosive hydrogen burning. Three
new states in Ar-36 have been observed in the (He-3, d) reaction at E
(x) = 8806, 8887 and 8923 keV. Deuteron angular distributions were mea
sured for 14 states near the Cl-35 + p threshold and were analyzed wit
h DWBA calculations. Values of transferred orbital angular momenta, sp
ectroscopic factors and proton partial widths were determined.: Gamma-
ray spectra have been measured at ten (p, gamma) resonances. Three new
resonances were observed at E(R) = 311, 416 and 627 keV, correspondin
g to Ar-36 states at E(x) = 8806, 8909 and 9117 keV, respectively. Exc
itation and resonance energies, gamma-ray branching ratios and resonan
ce strengths are presented. The astrophysical implications of our resu
lts for explosive hydrogen burning of Cl-35 are discussed.
