A digital speckle pattern interferometer with optical fibres is propos
ed for composite materials diagnostics in an operative environment. De
tection of a variety of flaws, such as disbonds, delaminations and cra
cks in aircraft components, is reported. Additional fringes are introd
uced for linearizing the fringe pattern and obtaining quantitative def
ormation measurements by Fourier transform analysis.
