Abstract
The electrochemically activated direct introduction of CO2 into poly(v inyl chloride), poly(vinyl bromide) and polybutadiene to form the corr esponding acrylic acid copolymers is shown. It is demonstrated that th e maximum extent of carboxylation is attained in the case of poly(viny l chloride), when conducting controlled-potential electrolysis in dime thylformamide using a platinum cathode and sacrificial anode in an und ivided cell. Possible pathways for the explored reactions are suggeste d.
