Gb. Zavilgelskii et Iv. Manukhov, LON PROTEASE IS INVOLVED IN TRANSCRIPTION REGULATION OF LUX OPERON OFVIBRIO-FISCHERI, Genetika, 30(3), 1994, pp. 337-341
Lon protease of Escherichia coli specifically inhibits the activity of
the regulatory protein LuxI responsible for synthesis of the autoindu
cer N-(3-oxo-hexanoyl)homosetine lactone. As a result, transcription o
f the right lux operon is initiated in lon(+) bacteria much later than
in lon(-) mutants. Loa protease does not affect the activity of LuxAB
proteins (luciferase)and LuxC, LuxD, and LuxE proteins involved in sy
nthesis of an aldehyde substrate for luciferase.
