Wheat-rye hybrids of F-1 ABDR (4x = 28), F-2, and F-2 (BC1) produced b
y crossing wheat Triticum aestivum L. of the Saratovskaya 29 variety w
ith three different populations of the rye Secale cereale L. Onokhoisk
aya variety were studied. The three hybrid combinations differed in th
e plumpness of Fo hybrid seeds, appearance of F-1 plants with fertile
pollen, and in the number of plants producing seeds after backcross to
wheat. Experimental evidence for genetic determination of postgamic i
ncompatibility and formation of viable gametes (with nonreduced chromo
some number) in wheat-rye hybrids were presented. The selection of rye
genotypes determining good plumpness of hybrid seeds and viability of
gametes in wheat-rye polyhaploids was shown to be expedient.
