The bisketeneimine Ph2C=C=N-C6H4-N=C=CPh2 1 has been used as a crossli
nker for carboxyl functional (meth)acrylate copolymers of various mola
r masses, in which the COOH group is attached to the backbone through
spacers of various length. The crosslinking reaction, carried out at v
arious temperatures, was monitored by infrared spectroscopy and by dyn
amic mechanical analysis. From a modelreaction with nonanoic acid kine
tic parameters were calculated. The products poly(meth)acrylate-polyim
ide networks were characterised by NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. The ther
mal stability (TGA measurement) was comparable to that of a correspond
ing polyurethane.
