Abstract
Tantalum samples processed in the Grenoble drop tube exhibit different nucleation behaviour. By means of a statistical analysis, it is possi ble to distinguish between homogeneous and heterogeneous nucleation ev ents. In the heterogeneous case, the usual process of direct formation of the stable b.c.c. phase is challenged by the transitory appearance of the A15 metastable form of this metal.
