Abstract
An explicit formulation of extended Thomas-Fermi density functionals r elevant to a microscopic description of rotating nuclei within the Sky rme Hartree-Fock formalism, is presented up to order h2BAR. Simple ana lytical expressions have been obtained for the dynamical moments of in ertia within this semiclassical framework. Phenomena identical to Land au orbital diamagnetism and Pauli spin paramagnetism have been exhibit ed upon using standard Skyrme force parametrizations. Both effects alm ost cancel. As a result, the Thomas-Fermi moments of inertia, which as sume explicitly the rigid-body expression, turn out to represent a rat her good approximation of the semiclassical results. Finally the valid ity of the Inglis formula is discussed in this context.
