Ignitor was proposed as a breakthrough in reaching ignition in a high
magnetic field. The evolution of the plasma parameters is analyzed. Di
fferent growth scenarios for the plasma current and density are consid
ered to optimize the global plasma performance while satisfying stabil
ity requirements. The toroidal field is consistent with the current in
crease adopted. The alpha particles produced are considered only as a
power source for electron and ion thermal energy. The effects of the c
urrent ramp rate are discussed, and the importance of the density prof
ile growth is indicated. The results show that stable trajectories thr
ough the (l(i),q(psi)) plane can be obtained, assuming the inward pinc
h is not too large, a (65135) deuterium-tritium mixture still yields a
cceptable performance, and a 10% prompt loss of alpha particles is all
owed.
