This paper briefly describes the formulation of NMC's Spectral Model a
nd the numerical methods used in its implementation. The various segme
nts of the numerical algorithm are analyzed for suitability to a massi
vely parallel architecture and a computer algorithm is designed for ex
ecution on a CM-200 computer. Special emphasis is placed on the produc
tion of a fast Legendre Transform and the minimization of interprocess
or communication. Performance and scalability issues are presented. (C
