LANGERHANS-CELL HISTIOCYTOSIS IN A NONAGENARIAN - REPORT OF A CASE WITH A LITERATURE-REVIEW OF PATIENTS OLDER THAN 70 YEARS

Langerhans-cell histiocytosis is seldom seen in adults and is extremel y rare in elderly persons. A 90-year-old woman with Langerhans-cell hi stiocytosis involving only the skin is presented. An excellent respons e to topical nitrogen mustard was observed. A literature review paying special attention to the treatment modalities in elderly patients is given. Topical nitrogen mustard is suggested as the treatment of choic e for Langerhans-cell histiocytosis involving only the skin. For syste mic disease in elderly patients etoposide treatment should be consider ed.
