The paper deals with a new type of materials with molecular proprietie
s but different structure in principle and having larger pores in comp
arison with classical zeolite molecular sieves. After settling down th
e scope of the pillared clays the paper describes the types of clays t
hat can be pillared (or cross-linked), the components that can be used
as pillaring agents, as well as the properties and characteristics of
the sieves produced. The various industrial processes in which the pi
llared clays are efficiently applied are briefly presented at the and
of the note.
