A complex order parameter equation describing the nonlinear dynamics n
ear threshold of a homogeneously broadened class-A ring laser with an
intracavity parametric amplifier is derived starting from the multimod
e Maxwell-Bloch laser equations in the limit of a very large cavity le
ngth. It is shown that, when the parametric amplifier is turned on, tr
aveling kink pulses may stably propagate in the cavity. These localize
d structures bear an interesting analogy with Bloch domain walls in fe
rromagnets.
