Abstract
A detailed procedure required to obtain an atomically clean and well-o rdered vanadium (100) surface is described. The measured valence band spectra are in agreement with theoretical predictions and some experim ental findings. The work function of the clean and well-ordered V(100) is found to be 4.3 +/- 0.1 eV.
