We report the first angle-resolved UV photoemission study of the rare
earth metal Sc(0001). Normal-emission photoelectron spectra recorded i
n the 20-50 eV photon energy range using synchrotron radiation have be
en compared to spectra calculated by a one-electron photocurrent code.
Emission from the GAMMA1+ and GAMMA4- critical points of the band str
ucture occurs at binding energies of 4.65 +/- 0.1 eV and 1.85 +/- 0.1
eV, respectively. Comparison of the GAMMA1+ binding energy with values
determined for other rare earth metals shows a relationship to the la
ttice parameter.
