Abstract
We consider the interaction of quantum defects with surface phonon and electron states. The temperature dependence of the quantum-diffusion coefficient at the crystal surface is found. We examine the possibilit y for the occurrence of bound states at the crystal surface, resulting in cardinal changes in the macroscopic diffusion coefficient.
