STEREOGRAPHIC PROJECTION METHOD OF EXACTLY CALCULATING SELECTIVE PULSES

A new, exact method of obtaining selective pulses in NMR is described. By drawing on an analogy with the behavior of seismic waves in geophy sics, a simple, flexible, and fast algorithm is obtained. The method i s used to determine novel selective pulses, including a doubly selecti ve pulse and a refocusing pulse, the latter pulse being obtained with the help of symmetry arguments. The doubly selective pulse is shown ex perimentally to have a response close to the theoretical response. It is also shown to be effective as a double solvent-suppression pulse.
