M. Kuda et H. Schauenburg, THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT SOCIALIZATION EFFECTS ON STUDENTS IN EAST-GERMANY AND WEST-GERMANY, PSYCHOLOGIE IN ERZIEHUNG UND UNTERRICHT, 41(2), 1994, pp. 107-119
We tried to elaborate the differences of socialisation between student
s in West- and East-germany (former GDR). The results: Postmaterialist
ic value-orientations dominate among students in West-germany, whereas
in East-germany a synthesis of materialistic and idealist value exist
s. No fundamental differences appeared in the personality components.
In east-germany the control-assurance resulted in paradox effects, wit
h both a high internal control-assurance and more powerlessness. The r
elevant themes of future-orientations have been engraved on the East-g
ermans more frequently with anxiety and pessimism, on the West-germans
with more desire for self-realisation. The rate of unemployment in th
e future has been overestimated, more in the East than in the West. Th
ere are significant differences of the habitus effects between specifi
c subjects, so that a comparison only between East and West would be t
oo coarsely.
