The actual twist level in the drafting zone of a woolen ring frame is
measured and analyzed with respect to false-twist tube speed, roller v
elocity, draft, deflector rod height, number of agitator pegs, and the
presence or absence of the jaw on the base of the false-twist tube. I
n terms of influence on the drafting twist, the false-twist tube speed
, the pegs, the jaw, and the draft are positive factors, while the def
lector rod and front roller velocity are negative factors. An empirica
l equation is produced to relate drafting twist level to spinning vari
ables, and deficiencies are shown for two earlier equations. A further
study is made of the effect of various mechanical parameters on the s
pinning performance and yarn properties for a number of wool blends. F
or the sake of brevity, only one parameter is discussed in this paper.
