Abstract
We have investigated the spectroelectrochemistry of quantum sized zinc oxide colloids of different sizes. It could be shown that electron in jection occurs from the metal electrode into the quantized states of t he small particles. The measured size-dependent redox potentials are i n accordance with quantum mechanical particle-in-a-box calculations. F urthermore, the spectral changes occurring upon reduction of the parti cles are discussed and compared to the number of electrons stored.
