Abstract
The lifetime of the S3 State of CS2 at 205 nm has been directly measur ed using femtosecond ultraviolet 1 + 1 multiphoton ionization spectros copy. Excitation pulses in the deep UV are produced by third harmonic generation of amplified CPM pulses. The lifetime of the S3 (or A) stat e at 205 nm is measured to be 600 +/- 100 fs. This is compared to prev ious indirect lifetime measurements for this state.
