F. Habiby et al., INFLUENCE OF 2ND-PHASE PARTICLES ON PLASTIC-DEFORMATION AND LATTICE REORIENTATION OF SINGLE-CRYSTALS DURING UNIAXIAL COMPRESSION, Journal of Materials Science, 29(8), 1994, pp. 2013-2016
Changes in the orientation of crystal axes of Al-0.8 wt% Si single cry
stals in the presence of two different particle sizes and inter-partic
le spacings were investigated during uniaxial compression. The orienta
tion of crystal axes before and after deformation was precisely determ
ined by the diffractometer method in the unit triangle of the stereogr
aphic projection. The reorientation of the compression axes after defo
rmation was found to be influenced by particle size and initial orient
ation of the undeformed crystals. It was found that particle size also
influenced the yield strength and work-hardening characteristics whic
h was explained on the basis of Orowan stresses and solid-solution str
engthening.
