Abstract
The authors report the clinico-pathological study of an encephalomyeli tis with necrotic cavitation of the white matter occuring in a 61-year -old female. The disease of sudden onset progressed slowly to the deat h, 20 months after the onset of the first symptoms. They stress the ra rity of the entity and the difficulties to establish the diagnosis cli nically. The nosological situation of the condition is discussed and c ompared with the previously reported cases.
