Abstract
The preparation and properties of a new uranium(III) iodo complex comp ound, UI3(CH3CN)4, are reported. The compound belongs to the monoclini c system with a=9.6168, b=8.7423, c=7.1858 angstrom, gamma=92.99-degre es and V=603.31 angstrom3. Magnetic susceptibility measurements were c arried out by the Faraday method in the 6.5-300 K range. In the 100-30 0 K region the compound exhibits Curie-Weiss paramagnetism with the pa ramagnetic constants mu(eff)=3.44 BM, C=1.467 emu K mol-1 and theta=-8 0 K. Solid state electronic absorption and reflectance spectra of the iodo complex have been recorded in the 4000-24 000 cm-1 region and are discussed.
