Toxocariasis is a human infection with animal ascarids which is common
in France. Two cases are reported. Clinical features and management i
n adults are reviewed. Incomplete, misleading clinical pictures are co
mmon, with nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms (50 % of cases), neur
ological symptoms (45 %), respiratory symptoms (40 %), or hematologic
disorders (20 %). Chronic eosinophilia occurs in only 6 % of cases. Mu
ltivisceral forms can simulate a systemic disease. Patients with docum
ented or probable toxocariasis may require treatment with benzimidazol
e derivatives.
