Starch gel-electrophoresis was used to survey genetic variation among
samples from four different populations of Barbus brevipinnis. Thirtee
n of 30 loci were found to be polymorphic. It is suggested, based on t
he extent of the genetic differences between populations, that the pop
ulations collected from the Waterberg should be regarded as an undescr
ibed species of Barbus.
