Abstract
This paper describes a series of small scale experiments using 3 kg of prototypic molten material to study the mixing of molten uranium diox ide fuel and water. The results of these experiments are compared with the predictions of a transient, two dimensional, three phase computer code, CHYMES, and an encouraging degree of agreement is demonstrated.
