Abstract
Starting with the paraxial approximation of the scalar wave equation w e first get the paraxial spinor wave equation leading in a natural way to the paraxial Maxwell equations. Then, we present two classes of no nhomogeneous paraxial electromagnetic waves and we discuss why this pa raxial approximation is used in electromagnetism.
