Optical signal processing can eliminate the speed limitation at electr
o-optic/optoelectronic interfaces, which allows the use of simple band
width-expansion-type protocols to support high-speed networking for re
al-time computer and control applications. This paper proposes a code-
division multiple-access (CDMA) network which uses prime codes and opt
ical processing to guarantee real-time data communications. All-optica
l architectures for fast, tunable CDMA encoders and decoders are prese
nted. Systematic delay-control algorithms for prime codes are also giv
en, which can be easily performed in the optical domain to support a h
igh throughput and a very fast reconfiguration time. Copyright (C) 199
