P. Wlodarski et al., RESULTS OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF BISPHOSPHONATES FOR THE PREVENTION OF PERIOSTEAL BONE-FORMATION FOLLOWING MOLONEY SARCOMA VIRUS-INDUCED TUMORS, Folia biologica, 39(6), 1993, pp. 297-303
The effect of continuous and discontinuous administration of bisphosph
onates on the periosteal osteogenesis induced by Moloney sarcoma devel
opment was studied in mice by histological examination and bone dry ma
ss evaluation. Both EHDP and Cl(2)MDP did not inhibit periosteal osteo
genesis but EHDP, in contrast to Cl(2)MDP, inhibited the mineralizatio
n of osteoid. This inhibition was completely reversible after the with
drawal of the drug. Within two weeks the remineralization of newly for
med bone matrix was completed.
