Leaf spot, blight, defoliation, and death of young plants of West Indi
an holly (Leea coccinea) in Hawaii were caused by Phytophthora meadii.
Both green and red cultivars of Leea were diseased and shown to be hi
ghly susceptible to several isolates of P. meadii. This is a new host
record for P. meadii and the first report of the fungus in the United
States.
