M. Komatsu et al., TRAFFIC ANALYSIS OF THE STOP-AND-WAIT ARQ OVER A MARKOV ERROR CHANNEL, IEICE transactions on communications, E77B(4), 1994, pp. 477-484
Recently, the throughput performances of ARQ's have been analyzed over
a Markov error channel. It has been shown that given a round-trip-del
ay, the throughput of the Stop-and-Wait ARQ is dependent only on the o
verall average packet-error probability. In this paper, we exactly ana
lyze the Stop-and-Wait ARQ scheme under the condition that the channel
is slotted and packet errors occur according to a two-state Markov ch
ain which is characterized by the decay factor. The distribution of pa
cket delay time and the channel usage factor are obtained. From the an
alytical results and numerical examples, it is shown that for a given
round-trip-delay, the average packet delay time and the channel utiliz
ation factor depend on both the overall average packet-error probabili
ty and the decay factor characterizing the two-state Markov chain. Fur
thermore, the decay factor gives different influence on the average de
lay time and the channel usage factor depending on whether the round-t
rip-delay is even slots or not.
