Ea. Foumeny et J. Ma, NON-DARCIAN NONISOTHERMAL COMPRESSIBLE FLOW AND HEAT-TRANSFER IN CYLINDRICAL PACKED-BEDS, Chemical engineering & technology, 17(1), 1994, pp. 50-60
Knowledge of transport processes is of considerable practical importan
ce in the design and performance evaluation of packed bed reactor syst
ems. Acquisition of the required information necessitates a realistic
mathematical description of the system. In this study, numerical analy
sis is performed for forced convective non-Darcian, non-isothermal com
pressible flow and heat transfer in cylindrical packed beds. Local str
uctural and transport properties are considered. The influence of comp
ressional work as well as viscous dissipation on the thermal field is
evaluated and a general criterion provided for assessing the effect of
expansion.
