Five cases of ipsilateral pupillary dilatation that developed during l
ocal intraarterial infusion of papaverine are reported. All patients w
ere being treated for symptomatic vasospasm secondary to subarachnoid
hemorrhage. In each case, the tip of the infusion catheter was positio
ned in the internal carotid artery in close proximity to the ostium of
the ophthalmic artery. Pupillary dilatation in all patients readily r
esolved after termination of the infusion.
