The concept of transmission between properties in a quantum system is
presented independently of the Hilbert-space formalism. With it, most
of the essential features of quantum theory are described. Some explic
it calculations axe performed for simple systems in the Hilbert-space
representation. It is suggested that many features arising from the li
near structure of Hilbert spaces should not be assigned any physical m
eaning. The proposed scheme is compatible with the propensity interpre
tation in a realistic, non-statistical approach without hidden variabl
es.
